Osun Monarch’s wife dragged to court by ex-husband for changing child’s surname

Queen Kafayat Adedoyin Oyetunji, one of the Queens of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, has been dragged before Osun State Customary court, sitting at Erin-Osun for allegedly changing surname of a child she had with her ex-husband.

According to the petitioner, he said he had a relationship with the defendant which was celebrated through an introduction ceremony on 22nd of December, 2012 which later led to having a child between them.

The petition partly read, “Kafayat Adedoyin birthed a girl child for me and I immediately took responsibility over the child right from pregnancy stage. I named the child Nadirah Adeola Lawal-Oloki.

According to the petitioner, he said the defendant entered into another marriage few months after child’s delivery and every effort to have access to his daughter proved abortive after an instruction that his daughter be put in custody of the defendant’s sister.

“The defendant has denied me access to my child since April 2015, when the child was about two (2) years old despite several calls and demands made by me. My daughter is now about Ten (10) years old.

“I had done everything humanly possible to access my child, as contacting the defendant, the defendant’s husband (the king) and other third parties, all to no avail.

The petitioner alleged that the defendant, Queen Oyetunji, has changed the name of the girl from Nadirah Adeola Lawal-Oloki to Nadirah Adeola Oyetunji. He is asking the court to restrain the defendant from changing the name of the girl, also he is asking the court to allow him take full custody of his child noting that “I have more than sufficient wherewithal to take care and nurturing my daughter to any standard.

The President of the Court, K.B Adeyinka has adjourned the case till 14th December 2022 for hearing.
