It is no longer news that the vice president of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has joined the APC presidential aspirants to cast his hat in the ring. However, ever since he declared his interest to contest for the office of the president under the platform of the All Progressive Congress party (APC), a lot of reverberations has been trailing his presidential declaration.
Latest reports about the new developments arising after he declared his interest to join the 2023 presidential race is his denouncement of his APC membership in the Lagos State chapter of the party.
This was disclosed by Chief Media Aide of the vice president, Laolu Akande, who disclosed that his his principal is no longer a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos state, and has transferred from the Lagos State chapter of the party to another state. According to him, vice president Yemi Osinbajo moved his membership to Ogun State when he revalidated his APC Membership status in Ward One, Ikenne, Ogun State on 9th February last year.
However, prior to his membership relocation, Osinbajo has been a chieftain of the Lagos APC with his polling unit at Code 33, Unit 2 Victoria Garden City, Lagos.
This new development came amidst speculations trailing the reaction of Tinubu to Osinbajo’ s Presidential ambition, which he declared recently. Some speculations have it that Tinubu, who is generally seen as the godfather of the Nigerian president is unhappy with his former Political ‘ godson’ over his ambition, whom he overtly denied as his political son when he was reacting to Osinbajo’ s presidential declaration.
Moreover, it is noteworthy that the APC national leader is also contesting for President in 2023 and has a strong political structure in Lagos State. On this note, some analytical deductions supports that this could be the possible reasons why Prof Yemi Osinbajo transferred his APC membership from Lagos to Ogun State.
