It Is A Disjunctive Term When They Say 2/3 Of The Votes Cast In 36 States And FCT' SAN Onueze Okocha

Former NBA President Onueze Okocha [SAN] has asserted that the term in the constitution specifying that the winner of the Presidential election needs to secure 2/3 of the votes cast in 36 states and the FCT is disjunctive, meaning separated. He agreed with the judgment of the PEPT that stated Abuja does not possess the exclusive authority to determine the President. He clarified that if a candidate has won in 2/3 of 29 states, there is no need to secure 2/3 in the FCT.

In an interview with TVC news, Okocha stated, “Abuja or the Federal Capital Territory essentially holds a status similar to that of a state, and I fully concur with the interpretation given by the justices who authored the Presidential election tribunal’s judgment. Abuja does not possess any special status that makes it the decisive factor in determining whether a Presidential candidate has won an election.

The term ‘2/3 of the votes cast in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory’ is what I describe as disjunctive. Now, if a candidate has won 2/3 of the votes in 29 states, there is no need to scrutinize whether the candidate who was declared the winner achieved 2/3 of the votes cast in the FCT. There is nothing unique about the FCT.”
