Immediately after the historic victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 General Elections, there was a political rift between the prominent members of the party. The political rift started with who should be elected as the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Interestingly, there was a political realignment between members of the defunct political power blocs that came together to form All Progressives Congress (APC). The political realignment brought some political leaders against their original lords in politics.
Rotimi Akeredolu was captured by the Cabals using the influence of former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi who had earlier abandoned his political lord, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Probably, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi must have endorsed his alignment with the Cabals, hoping he will be favored to be the presidential candidate of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.
Eventually, Rotimi Akeredolu moved against his regional political boss, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his bid to win the governorship ticket of Ondo State in 2016. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu had preference for Olusegun Abraham but that was not enough reason for Rotimi Akeredolu to have taken his ambition to the political face of the West, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
After the victory of Rotimi Akeredolu at the governorship primary election of Ondo State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed Olusegun Abraham to, immediately, dissolve his support teams into the political structure of Akeredolu which he obliged by, instantly. Despite this, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was humiliated to the extent that Rotimi Akeredolu failed to acknowledge Tinubu in his inauguration speech. How time fly?
In their attempts to outsmart Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rotimi Akeredolu and his cohorts in the Cabals instrumented the removal of Adams Oshiomole as the National Party Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Oshiomole is one of the core loyalists of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
One thing that earn Rotimi Akeredolu enough respect from the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was that, few years after his inauguration Rotimi Akeredolu restored the dignitary he had for Tinubu. With utmost accord, he attends Tinubu’s events than those that have never had face off with the political magnificent, Tinubu.
Fast forward to 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, Akeredolu had recognised the support he would have enjoyed from Tinubu, if he had not stood against him in 2016. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was reelected as the executive governor of Ondo State but was faced with toe-to-toe legal battle.
Reliable sources had informed Governor Akeredolu that the power bloc he once belonged to, the Cabals, are currently after him. The cabals wanted to halt his political relevance and send the Owo-born governor back to the village in favor of Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the same election.
Surprisingly, Eyitayo Jegede was said, by the reliable source, to have entered into an agreement with the Cabals to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), if he is supported to win the legal tussle that followed the governorship election.
The Ondo State gubernatorial election legal battle was tough that Governor Akeredolu narrowly escaped the extremism of a political gang he was once a member, the Cabals.
Reliably, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was able to defeat the wrath of his ’emergency friends’, the Cabals, only after he contacted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and revealed his challenges. The political sage, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, operated and deployed his superior political logistics from his temporary base in London to cut the Cabals into irredeemable sizes.
If not for the last minute intervention and support rallied around Governor Rotimi Akeredolu by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu might have lost 5 votes to 2 in his gubanatorial legal battle, with the influence of the Cabals.
