Tribunal Judgement: How Can An Elder Statesman Make Such A Statement? – Gololo Carpets Bode George

“A prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Garus Gololo, has criticized Bode George’s statement regarding the role of competent courts in determining the outcomes of Nigeria’s general elections. Bode George, a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had expressed doubts about the judiciary’s involvement in determining election results, suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should order a re-conduct of elections to ensure the emergence of genuine winners. George strongly opposed the idea of INEC relying on court processes to decide election outcomes.

In response to George’s remarks, Gololo firmly disagreed with his choice of words, considering them unpatriotic and contrary to electoral guidelines that provide an avenue for aggrieved political parties to seek legal recourse in a competent court. Gololo, who expressed his deep respect for Chief Bode George, both as a former military officer and a politician, asserted that some individuals fail to fully embrace true democracy as demonstrated by INEC’s established practices.

Why Things Are Not Working In Nigeria - Bode George

He found it disheartening that Nigerian politicians often perceive things differently based on whether their political parties are in power or in opposition. Gololo believed that elders, like Bode George, should play a role in educating the younger generation to prevent actions that could lead to national turmoil. He emphasized the importance of adhering to electoral guidelines, including seeking redress in court when necessary, to avoid jeopardizing the country’s stability and causing chaos.

Gololo advised all political parties not to heed the elder statesman’s suggestion and instead urged them to respect the judgments of the court, as the ultimate recourse remains the Supreme Court.”
