Tribunal: When the Tribunal Renders Its Verdict, Let Everybody Bury Their Hatchets – Bishop Oke

According to THE SUN, Bishop Wale Oke, the National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), appealed to Nigerians on Thursday to allow the judges of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) to complete their deliberations regarding the outcome of the February 25, 2023 presidential poll and deliver their judgment. He urged Nigerians to accept whatever verdict the Tribunal arrives at.

Atiku Abubakar, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, and Peter Obi, his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, approached the PEPT after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election. The Tribunal’s verdict is expected soon.

During a press conference with other PFN leaders at the conclusion of the fellowship’s three-day National Executive Retreat 2023, Bishop Oke commented on the 2023 poll and the resulting disputes over the outcome. He stated, “Nigeria has just experienced a general election that nearly tore the nation apart. It was a fiercely contested election. The results of the election are currently before the tribunal. Therefore, we do not wish to comment extensively on it. Let the tribunal complete their work and render their verdict to the nation. We are praying that God will guide them in their judgment.

“We urge all Nigerians to please accept the tribunal’s verdict and let us move forward with the rebuilding of our nation. We should come together in unity and let the healing begin because the politics of the past few months have inflicted many wounds on various sectors of our nation.”

Citing the case of Sudan, which has been plagued by war following a disputed election, the cleric said, “We don’t want war in Nigeria. So, when the tribunal renders its verdict, let everybody bury their hatchets and join hands together to build Nigeria.”
