Obaseki Cannot Just Tell Security Operatives To Stop Shaibu From Attending State Functions' – Sumner Sambo

Arise TV political analyst Sumner Sambo has claimed that Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki does not have the legal right to forbid the deputy governor, Shaibu, from attending official state functions.

Sambo emphasised Shaibu’s legal right to participate in official responsibilities as a legitimately elected deputy governor during an interview on Arise TV.

“When both the governor and deputy governor are in office, they must understand their designated constitutional responsibilities,” Sambo said. It is not within Governor Obaseki’s authority to forbid Deputy Governor Shaibu, who has a constitutionally mandated role, from attending state activities. Given that the state security official in question prevented a lawfully elected deputy governor from performing his duties, his acts merit investigation by the Department of State Security (DSS).
