Presidential Polls: LP Would Have Hailed INEC As Best Institution In Nigeria If They Had Won – Odiakpo Obire

As the presidential election petitions tribunal in abuja continues to hear arguments, Odiakpo Obire, a member of the ruling all progressives congress (APC), has responded to the labour party’s call for immediate dismissal and prosecution of professor Mahmud Yakubu, the chairman of the independent national electoral commission (inec), for suspected election fraud.

Obire appeared on channels tv’s ‘sunrise daily’ on friday and said that the labour party was only critical of inec because it won the presidential elections. He said that if the other party had won, the allegations would have been different.

The apc leader continued by saying that the election should be taken seriously if the labour party received six million votes and won a whole region and other parts of the country.

I can understand the labour party’s position, but it is a very fundamental issue, he said. If you want to know the truth, you should know that the lp received nearly six million votes in elections supervised by the same inec.

In elections supervised by the same inec, the labour party triumphed across the region, particularly in the southeast. If the labour party had won the election at the end of the exercise, the independent national electoral commission (inec) would be the best institution nigerians have ever had.

Free and fair elections can only be held when the losing party wins.
