PEPT: This is Not The Final Judgment, It is Just a Preliminary Part of The Judgment — Robert Clarke

Senior Advocate of Nigeria and esteemed elder statesman, Robert Clarke, recently shared his perspective during an interview on the Arise TV online program. When questioned by the journalist, he offered his insights on the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal court, which upheld Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

During the online Interview on Arise TV, He said…

It is not a surprise to many of us, but we’ve learned a lot from what has happened. Now, there is necessarily going to be an appeal to the Supreme Court on this matter because many issues have been raised in this ruling that need more clarification for either of the parties in this litigation.

I am of the view that this particular point of law that has just been adjudged upon is necessarily going to be a point of appeal to the Supreme Court. I look forward to this point being raised to finally settle that area of law still lingering over the question of double nomination. It is very exciting and illuminating.

Given that these matters have been addressed in previous cases before the Supreme Court, the current tribunal, presided over by a knowledgeable Justice, is obligated to abide by the Supreme Court’s precedent on this specific ruling. Therefore, the upcoming appeal promises to be intriguing, and I believe both parties involved in this legal dispute can maintain hope that the Supreme Court will reexamine the issue in a more enlightening manner. It’s crucial to remember that this isn’t the ultimate judgment; This is not the final judgment; this is just a preliminary part of the judgment
