Recall that earlier this week, Nollywood shut down Mbaise, Imo state, as A-list actors and actresses stormed the South-East for Dominic’s traditional wedding to hubby, Fidelis Anosike.

Some of the more popular veteran faces in attendance included Joke Silva, Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Hilda Dokubo, Lilian Bach and Shan George.

New-age Nollywood celebs were also not left out with the likes of Queen Nwokoye, Uche Elendu, Ese Eriata, BBNaija’s TolaniBaj, Mercy Eke and Idia Aisien also in attendance

However, there were some stars missing from the event including the likes of Mercy Johnson, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji, among others.

Why Was Mercy Johnson Absent?

Unfounded rumours of jealousy and bad blood between the actresses have since been making the rounds. Johnson has now come out to clear up any such rumours.

The actress did the above after she was questioned by an avid fan as to her absence at Dominic’s nuptials. According to Johnson, she was on the set of a movie, and as a result could not make it to the wedding.

“I have gone through your page several times to see if it not you again since yesterday because I know you as one who is always genuinely happy with everyone, I was wondering since you didn’t go to Owerri, what happened to posting?” the fan quizzed

Johnson would later directly felicitate with Rita Dominic, as she posted photos of the actress and her husband on her Instagram page. Her caption was a congratulatory message, wherein she further reiterated the cause of her absence.

“The Queen herself, Congratulations Queen, The celebration never ends. I wish you so much happiness in this new journey….P/s we all clicked our glasses to you on set yesterday….Gods blessings always Mami” she wrote

Johnson’s statements come in light of disparaging remarks made by controversial Nollywood actor, Uche Maduagwu.

In a series of posts shared via Instagram, Maduagwu called out actresses absent at Dominic’s wedding as he accused them of jealousy.

Uche Maduagwu LAMBASTS Mercy Johnson, Others

The controversial actor has since reacted to Mercy’s statements with scorn. According to him, the actress’ excuse for not attending the wedding does not hold water, as she could have posted photos/congratulatory messages earlier on social media.

Further lambasting the actress, Maduagwu referred to Mercy’s wedding back in 2013, claiming that Rita Dominic was very supportive during the ceremony.

“God have Mercy You were on movie set But did the movie Set tell u not to post A congratulatory Message on social media?” he wrote

Genevieve, who is also from Mbaise, Imo state is yet to react to the apparent shade.

Recall that earlier this year Genevieve had unfollowed everyone on Instagram. The shocking move by the actress was discovered upon a quick check on her account which is followed by 8.4 million people.

It remains to be seen why the actress unfollowed everyone she was previously following.

Two Sides Of A Pod: Genevieve Nnaji & Rita Dominic

46-year-old Rita Dominic was always mentioned in the same breath as Genevieve as a result of the many similarities they share.

They rose to prominence at roughly the same time, and the pair were also strong and independent women who remained single well into their forties.

Genevieve, who is still single, has in the past opened up on her fears saying that she does not want to end up with the wrong person.

According to her, marriage is one thing she is scared of because she does not wish for a broken marriage. She further mentioned that she would rather stay single than experience a broken marriage.

In her words;

“If I get married, I really want to stay married, and staying married is not an easy thing. It means you are completely in tune with your partner. It means you have found your soul mate and will have to be able to stand a lot of disappointments that would definitely come but then again you have to learn how to forgive.”
