No Igbo man voted Peter Obi because he’s Igbo, they voted him because he’s the best person- Enyinnaya Abaribe

The former Senate Minority Leader and representative of Abia South’s senatorial district, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, has refuted claims suggesting a lack of unity among the Igbos in their quest to produce a president, unlike some other regions. Speaking on Signature TV, Abaribe pointed to the support received by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, from the Igbo community in the last presidential election as proof of his argument. He clarified that the Igbos didn’t vote for Obi solely because of his Igbo identity, but rather because they deemed him the most competent person to tackle the nation’s economic challenges.

According to Abaribe, “, “Igbos don’t love themselves but what happened during the last election? Peter Obi took all the votes in Igboland. Upon investigation, those who had doubts confirmed his popularity. Why? Because the Igbos viewed him as the most suitable candidate to oversee our economy at this critical juncture, need a sane, composed, meticulous, and responsible leader.”

When asked: Maybe they voted him because he was an Igbo man?

He said, “No Igbo voted him because he was an Igbo man, they voted him because they saw him as the best person. And I stand to be challenged by anybody. And that is why you could see that his appeal was country wide.”
