No attempt to remove the Deputy Governor- Obaseki

According to Vanguard, The governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, said on Monday that there is no intention to remove his deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu.

Nevertheless, the governor pointed out that Shaibu’s action in seeking a court order to halt his alleged impeachment is preventive action before his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, was warned by the leaders of the Edo North Senatorial District not to further the state’s problem as they distanced themselves from his bid for governor.

The deputy governor has been actively negotiating his way into the APC with senior actors at the national and state levels, according to the governor, who was briefing journalists in Benin City during a visit by the leaders of Edo North. He also said that he is about to finalize his defection to the APC.

Let me state for the record that I am not aware of any conspiracy or strategy to impeach Comrade Philip Shaibu, the deputy governor, he added. Additionally, I looked, and there was no such plan.

“As a result, the Court action taken comes as a surprise and disappointment to me.” I’m attempting to think about a decision made by someone I’ve granted considerable authority to conduct his job as deputy governor. So his conduct is startling.”

“It’s clear what has happened in the last few weeks,” he said. It is a proactive step on his part to finish what he has begun. Those of you from Akoko-Edo may recall that when we were debating the subject of your local government chairman and that of Owan, you expressed strong opposition to the candidates he intended to force on you. I listened to your pleas and believed what you were proposing was reasonable. How can he endorse the son of an APC leader in that municipality? You fought, but I saw reason and granted your request.

“The next day, I saw on social media that he was in Abuja, robbing minds with the opposition party.” I’ve heard for months that he’s been in confidential communication with people from another party because he wasn’t convinced you, the PDP leaders, would offer him the ticket as governor in 2024.”

“I must state here that Philip Shaibu has never had the courtesy to discuss his ambition with me,” the governor said. When we last discussed my successor following the House of Assembly election, I said that we should be patient and that our duty is to strive to finish well and complete all of our projects that we started. Only if we execute this well will we have the people’s support for my successor.

“I believe this is a preemptive move by him to obtain a court order, keep his ticket, and relocate to another party.” It appears to be unjust to our party. This type of crisis is not required. I’ve had calls from all around the world, and it’s pretty terrible that someone in an administration will do this to the government for personal gain.”

“I am not angry,” he said, “but I should be disappointed.” What’s going on is clear to me. I appreciate your support. We must not be sidetracked, but rather solidify and unite our party and bring everyone on board. As we begin our local government campaigns tomorrow, I ask you to join me in order to establish a PDP that will continue to dominate Edo State politics, as we must end well in order for our people to continue to give us the mandate. Edo will continue to be great because our combined efforts will drive our future since no one guy can be larger than all of us.”
