Nigeria’s Ambassador To Spain Dies At 63, Gbajabiamila Mourns

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Ademola Seriki, has died at the age of 63 years.

According to a statement signed on Thursday by Seriki’s children, the diplomat died “peacefully surrounded by his family in Madrid, Spain.”

“It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude to Almighty Allah that we announce the loss of our much loved and admired patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend,” the statement read in part.

In mourning him, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila expressed sadness over the ambassador’s death.

In a statement by his media aide, Lanre Lasisi, the speaker said: “Ambassador Seriki was a fine diplomat who represented Nigeria to the best of his ability.”

“Ambassador Seriki dedicated himself to the service of his fatherland and humanity in general,” Gbajabiamila stated.

The Speaker commiserated with the Ademola Seriki family, the people and the Lagos State government, praying for his soul’s peaceful repose.

The former minister was born on November 30, 1959. He has been the Nigerian ambassador to Spain since January 2021 with concurrent accreditation as a Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations World Tourism Organization-UNWTO.

Seriki held various positions in government including Minister of State for Interior from 2009 to 2010.

From 2008 to 2009, he was the Minister of State for Defence. From October 2008 to December of the same year, he served as Supervising Minister for Mines and Steel Development.

He was Minister of State for Agriculture and Water Resources from 2007 to 2008.
