My Guinean Citizenship Is Invalid Since My Passport Expired in 2020 – Tinubu Tells Tribunal

As Nigerians continue to monitor the proceedings at the ongoing Election Petition Tribunals, All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told the court that his Guinean passport expired in 2020, rendering his citizenship invalid.

In a report published by Sahara Reporters, President Bola Tinubu’s legal team, led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), made the claim while requesting the tribunal to dismiss a petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) seeking Tinubu’s removal from office.

Wole Olanipekun, SAN, stated that Tinubu’s Guinean citizenship expired in 2020, coinciding with the expiration of his Guinean passport, which was being presented by the opposition party. He argued that the Guinean passport presented by the LP’s witness, identified as PW27, had expired in 2020.

Going further, he insisted that the opposition party’s allegation regarding Tinubu’s dual citizenship was an attempt to embarrass the President.

“Lastly, the PW27 tendered Exhibit PBF4 (Guinean passport), which he claimed to have downloaded from the internet, purportedly representing the data pages of the respondent’s Guinean passport. However, it is evident that the passport expired in 2020. These claims are mere speculation aimed at embarrassing the respondent,” part of the statement read.
