Niger President Said That He Ate Dry Rice, He's Now Feeling What The Masses Are Feeling – Chuks Ohuegbe

Amid the ongoing detention of Mohammed Bazoum by the military junta that seized power in the Niger Republic, veteran journalist, and public affairs commentator, Chuks Ohuegbe has come out to tackle the deposed President over his comments on how he was being treated by the soldiers who detained him.

According to a report by The TRIBUNE, Bazoum, in a text message to a friend, complained that he was “being kept in isolation and forced to eat dry rice.

In the text, which was also sighted by CNN, the ousted Niger Republic President also complained that he was deprived of human contact since Friday, with nobody coming to supply him food or medicine. He also stated that he has been living without electricity for a week, as the country’s neighbor, Nigeria, has since cut off electricity supply as part of ongoing sanctions against the military junta.

Speaking during an interview on Africa Independent Television’s ‘Kaakaki’ program on Thursday, August 10, Ohuegbe, who is the Director of Publications at The Pilot paper, opined that while the military coup is highly condemnable, Bazoum’s latest ordeal represents the harsh realities of the poor masses in Niger Republic.

He said; “You see the story of deposed President of the Niger Republic who says he now eats dry rice. He is now feeling what the masses are feeling. These are things we have been talking about. The coup in the Niger Republic is condemnable but it seems the people now have leaders they can relate with. This is what life is all about.”
