Nigeria is grinding to a halt under Tinubu, says PDP

In a recent statement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns about the state of Nigeria’ s governance, asserting that the country is facing serious challenges under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), TheCable reports.

The PDP’ s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized the growing disconnect between the government and citizens due to the implementation of ill- planned policies. The party pointed out that these policies have led to widespread hardship, insecurity, and apprehension, which are now endangering the nation’ s peace, unity, and overall existence.

Among the issues highlighted by the PDP is the removal of subsidy and the floating of the Naira, resulting in an alarming increase in the cost of living. This has also adversely affected national productivity, led to business closures, and triggered massive job losses. Consequently, poverty, hunger, insecurity, and hopelessness have escalated across the country.

The PDP’ s statement further criticized the APC government’ s lack of concrete commitment to citizens’ safety, particularly in the face of rising violence. The party pointed out that more than 500 Nigerians have been killed in various states since May 29, 2023, with additional cases of abduction adding to the overall insecurity.

The PDP also expressed dismay at the lack of intervention following the abduction of eight corps members who were en route to Sokoto State for their mandatory national service. The party highlighted that the downing of a Nigerian military aircraft, resulting in the loss of military personnel, lacked a corresponding reassuring response from the APC government.

One of the most concerning aspects raised by the PDP is the sharp decline in life expectancy under the current government. Citizens are reportedly living in constant fear due to the prevalence of violence and kidnappings, which has restricted their freedom of movement.

The PDP criticized the APC government’ s involvement in a conflict in Niger Republic, asserting that this move is unnecessary and does not serve Nigeria’ s national interest. This stance, the party claims, could potentially drag the nation into a needless war.

The PDP urged Nigerians to maintain calmness, adhere to the law, and support one another in their pursuit of a secure and economically prosperous nation. The party expressed concern that the ongoing sense of despondency and disconnection, if not promptly addressed, could escalate into a serious crisis.
