Niger: Why Did These So-Called Western Allies Refuse To Sell Us Arms To Fight Boko Haram -Femi Fani

In response to reports of the alleged incursion of the Nigerian military into Niger Republic to address the situation involving the coup leaders, Femi Fani-Kayode issued a statement on his Twitter account. He expressed his belief that it would be an unwise move for Nigeria to engage in a conflict with Niger Republic. Fani-Kayode emphasized the need to avoid war at all costs and called for a sensible and peaceful approach.

Fani-Kayode’s statement underscored the potential negative consequences of such a conflict. He warned that it could not only destabilize Nigeria but also have far-reaching implications for the entire sub-region. He mentioned the valuable and positive relationship Nigeria has been cultivating with President Putin and the Russian Federation, highlighting their growing role as Africa’s supportive allies. Fani-Kayode also alluded to China’s engagement in the region, which, alongside Russia, appears to genuinely focus on aiding the progress and advancement of African nations.

For those advocating that Nigeria continues to serve the interests of Western powers like France, Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States in the sub-region, Fani-Kayode posed a critical question. He questioned the motives behind the emergence of groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP and highlighted the reluctance of these Western allies to provide arms for combating these terrorist organizations until the intervention of the Trump administration. Fani-Kayode emphasized that the Western powers primarily view Nigeria as a resource-rich region and a mere enforcer of their agendas.

Fani-Kayode further argued that these Western powers are pushing Nigeria into a conflict against fellow African nations to safeguard their economic and regional interests. He cautioned against allowing the West African sub-region to become a battleground for an ongoing and brutal proxy war between these Western powers and Russia. Such a scenario, he warned, would engulf the entire West and North African sub-region in a relentless cycle of violence and instability.
