Niger State: We’re Discussing With Bandits To Drop Their Arms For Amnesty – Governor Bago

According to Vanguard, the Governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, has said that his administration is discussing with bandits in order to find a peaceful resolution to the security challenges in the state.

Governor Bago, while fielding questions from journalists during his visit to Mohammed Malagi, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, in Abuja, he affirmed that his government was offering the bandits amnesty to drop their weapons.

He said: “We are discussing with the bandits to drop their arms for amnesty. However, we are prepared for any outcome. Our discussions are not negotiations, we are urging them to voluntarily lay down their arms and be integrated into the society.

“The government is working, but some of those things are better kept private. The operations of security agencies are not always what we will come out and talk. I can tell you that the President is working to ensure that peace returns to Nigeria.”
