Niger Coup: Eleven ECOWAS Leaders Arrive Abuja For Meeting

At the current moment, a private session is underway during an Extraordinary meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Heads of State and Government. This special summit is currently occurring at the Old Banquet Hall situated within the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as reported by punch .

Among those present in this gathering are Bola Tinubu, the ECOWAS Chairman and President of Nigeria, as well as President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone, President Umaro Mokhtar Sissoco of Guinea Bissau, and President Everiste Ndayishimiye of Burundi.

Additional participants encompass President Alassane Ouattara of Cote d’Ivoire, President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania, President Nana Akofo-Ado of Ghana, President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Patrice Talon of Benin Republic, and Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé Eyadéma of Togo.

For The Gambia and Liberia, their representation comes in the form of their respective Ministers of Foreign Affairs. Notably absent are the heads of state from the embattled nations of Niger Republic, Mali, Chad, and Burkina Faso.

The focal point of the discussion during this meeting revolves around the subsequent steps that will follow the resolutions and time-sensitive directives issued to the Nigerien junta. This junta recently ousted the democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum from office.
