N500bn Palliative: Shina Peller Reacts After Tinubu Revealed Plan To Transfer N8k to Poor Nigerians

A former member of the House of Representatives, who represented the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal constituency, has urged President Bola Tinubu to provide more palliatives to the citizens to cushion the impact of the petrol subsidy removal.

According to Punch, Tinubu had asked the National Assembly to approve an $800 million loan to ease people’s hardship.

Peller mentioned that upon approval of the loan, a monthly transfer of N8,000 will be made to the bank accounts of 12 million impoverished and low-income households for a duration of six months. He expressed his gratitude for being bestowed with the title of “Grand Commander of the Nigerian Youth” by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Nigerian Youths in Politics, and Arewa Concerned Youth Forum, stating that though the amount may not be substantial, it is still better than receiving nothing at all.

He urged the president to offer additional relief packages in order to allete the economic challenges resulting from the removal of subsidies. He expressed, “While I acknowledge that the N500 billion palliative is better than receiving nothing, I am hopeful that with time, we can expect more support from the president.”
