Palliatives will put smiles on Nigerians’ faces — Ex-Edo gov, Igbinedion

Former Governor of Edo State and Chairman of ‘Class of 1999 Governors’, Lucky Igbinedion, on Wednesday, in Abuja, appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the President Bola Tinubu-led administration, saying palliatives are underway to soften the effect of the fuel subsidy discontinuance.

Igbinedion told State House Correspondents shortly after the former governors met with Tinubu in the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, “Nigerians should wait patiently and believe in him that he’s going to come up with palliatives that will put a smile on the faces of every one of us in Nigeria.”

The meeting on Wednesday, which lasted just over an hour, marked Tinubu’s first interaction with the previous governors who were chosen at the start of the fourth republic.

The helmsmen of the old states, according to Igbinedion, were present at the State House to express their support for the new leadership.

Bola Tinubu is a founding member of the current Fourth Republic, he stated, addressing the president. As each of you is aware, the governors from 1999 are all present among us.

“We came to thank Mr. President and to congratulate him on appointing one of us as Secretary to Government.

“We came to assure him that he has our full support and prayers for the courageous actions he has begun to take, for his initiatives, and also to let him know that this is beyond party politics; we’re now talking about the Project Nigeria; therefore, all hands must be on deck to give Mr. President the needed support and encouragement to foster a better nation.”
