Tinubu's ministerial appointments is bloated, he does not need this number to do the job- Abah

Former minister of police affairs, Humphrey Abah has said the cabinet appointees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is bloated considering the current economic situation. Mr Abah who hinted that some ministries don’t need to have a minister and a minister of State, added that the line of distribution of jobs is very slim and this may cause conflict between the minister and the minister of State.

Speaking on Jigsaw, a programme on AIT, He said, “how can you have bloated number of appointees from day one of your administration when you know that you have inherited an economic turmoil? We are in an economic disaster.”

When told perhaps that is also the reason for the large number of appointees because there is so much work to be done?

He said, “No, you don’t need this number to do the job. I’ll give you some clear examples, in the ministry of police affairs, today you have two ministers. You have a minister, you have a minister of State in police. What would they be doing? You also have an Inspector General of Police, you have the police service commission, you have the President as the chairman of the police council. What would they be doing?

Now you have roles duplication in other ministries. You created a ministry of steel development and you put two ministers there. Commerce and industry, you have them there. And so when you have these duplications, the line of distribution of jobs is very slim and you are going to have conflicts between the minister and the minister of State.”
