The front trio of Nicolo Zaniolo, Tammy Abraham, and Lorenzo Pellegrini failed to click and as a result, Roma played 90 minutes without threatening Napoli’s goal.
The game was heading to a goalless draw before a moment of magic from Victor Osimhen turned it in Napoli’s favor.
Napoli played a ball in behind for Osimhen, and it looked like Smalling had it covered at the onset, but the Nigerian was able to out-muscle the English man and got off a shot from an impossible angle, rifling it past a helpless Patricio.
At the press conference, Mourinho said his squad is missing a player who can create such moments and win a difficult game.
“We have to be more decisive upfront, what lodges into the statistics are the shots on goal,
“Then I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to transform into opportunities as Osimhen did,” he said.
Osimhen has scored in his three games for Napoli, since returning from injury.
