Dele Momodu Reacts to an Old Video of Festus Okoye Saying that the Use of the BVAS is Mandatory
In response to an old video of former INEC Information and Voter Education Chairman Festus Okoye announcing that INEC presiding officers must use their BVAS machines during the voting process and transmission of the results of the 2023 general elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has taken to social media to air his opinion.
Dele Momodu, a Nigerian journalist, posted a video of Festus Okoye announcing that the presiding officer must use the smart card reader prescribed by the commission for the accreditation of voters to authenticate the particulars of intending voters in the manner prescribed by the commission in Section 47, Subsection 2, of the Electoral Act 2022.
Festus Okoye claims that the use of BVAS is required by law and is not a matter of discretion, and that the Commission will transmit results down to the polling unit level in real time because doing so is required by law under subsection 6 of Section 6 of the Electoral Act 2022.

Dele Momodu responded to Festus Okoye’s assertions by saying that the Presidential Election Tribunal had told Nigerians that Festus Okoye’s claims were empty promises and not mandated by law.
