Ministerial Nominees: Tinubu Withdraws Shetty, Nominates Mahmood, Keyamo

President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to the list of ministerial nominees from Kano State. According to The Cable, he has withdrawn the nomination of Dr. Maryam Shetty and replaced her with Mr. Mahmood Mairiga.

Additionally, Tinubu has nominated Festus Keyamo, a former minister of state for labor and employment, and Mairiga Mahmood for Senate confirmation as ministers. These new additions bring the second batch of ministerial nominees to a total of 20.

Earlier this week, Tinubu added 19 more names to the original list of ministerial nominees, which had already been sent to the Senate for screening. This development brings the total number of ministerial nominees sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation to 48.

President Tinubu communicated his decision to the Senate during the resumption of the screening process on Friday. Senate President Godwill Akpabio read the president’s letter during the plenary session.

At the time of reporting, several nominees had already been screened and given the directive to “take a bow and go.”

These include Heineken Lokpobiri, a former lawmaker; Ibrahim Gaidam, former governor of Yobe and incumbent senator representing Yobe East; Gboyega Oyetola, former governor of Osun; and Sabi Abdullahi, a former senator.

The Senate took a break to allow lawmakers of the Muslim faith to observe Friday prayers.
