Rangers International FC storm Lagos for Super Cup tourney

Rangers International FC of Enugu have arrived Lagos for the maiden edition of the Nigeria Professional Football League/Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation Pre-season Super Four tournament.

This development was contained in a statement issued by the club’s Media Officer, Nobert Okolie, on Monday.

According to the statement, the club was confident of emerging champions of the inaugural edition.

The tournament is billed to hold from December 6 to 9 at the Mobolaji Sports Complex in Lagos and the Ikenne Township Stadium, Ogun State.

He said the club’s delegation, including players, coaches, back-room and management staff, arrived safely in Lagos full of confidence.

“Rangers is confident of achieving its set target of coming top in the tournament and use it as a perfect springboard into the new league season,” he said.

Okolie said that coach Abdul Maikaba addressed the players before they departed from Enugu, adding that the coach called for total cooperation.

Maikaba said: “We are going to Lagos to compete against quality teams for the right to become the first winners of this tournament and we can only achieve this through cooperation.

“Everything about on the field and off the field activities will have to be done through a way that will show love and care for each other.

“We have done a lot in preparing for this tournament with special attention from management, hence we have to be at our best to repay them.

“Let us appreciate management backing with solid performance and return home as champions of the tournament.”

Also speaking, the Administrative Secretary of the club, Ferdinand Ugwuarua, charged the entire team to be focused and dedicated towards achieving the club’ set target in Lagos.

Ugwuarua saidL “We are going to Lagos not to count the bridges but to show other invited teams in the tournament, the good stuff we are made of both on and off the pitch.

“I urge all the players to put in their best performances towards achieving our target in the tournament.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the NPFL invited four Nigerian top sides, including Rangers International FC of Enugu and Enyimba International FC of Aba, for the tournament.

Other participating teams are Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan and Bendel Insurance FC of Benin City.
