Many Nigerians Won't Get One Cup Of Rice From President Tinubu's Palliative – Joe Ajaero

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s fuel subsidy removal relief measures, highlighting that they believe many Nigerians will receive insufficient support, not even enough for a cup of rice.

Recall that in August, the Nigerian government, under the leadership of Tinubu, authorized the allocation of N185 billion to states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as relief measures to allete the severe economic hardships experienced by Nigerians due to the removal of fuel subsidies. Each state received N5 billion with the specific purpose of acquiring essential food items, particularly rice and provisions, for distribution among the most vulnerable residents

Expressing dissatisfaction with the distribution of palliatives, which many Nigerians have criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly favoring its members, the Labour Union announced a two-day nationwide strike.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, who declared the warning strike, expressed regret that the distribution of food relief measures falls short in addressing the impacts of fuel subsidy removal.

Ajaero who spoke while featuring on Channels TV programme, on Friday night, said: “If you share that N5bn or even the five trucks of rice or grain, many people may not get one or half cup of rice.

“If you share the N5bn, many people, probably within the working class or the poor of the poor, may not get N1,500. Now, is that the palliative?”
