Manchester City has denied that they were close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo stated that a transfer to Manchester United’s competitors was “near.”
But after leaving Juventus, the 37-year-old came back to United for a second stint.
Ronaldo admitted that illustrious manager Sir Alex Ferguson prevented him from joining City.
However, according to City sources, Ronaldo’s remarks are “not reflective” of their at-the-time, “mild” interest, according to ESPN.
This summer, after also failing to entice Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, Pep Guardiola finally acquired Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
