Plateau State Government Aims to Enhance Funding and Governance Efficiency

The Plateau State government has set a new course for its administration as it encourages its appointees to take proactive steps in improving funding, governance efficiency, and revenue generation.

As per Vanguard paper on Friday, August 18, 2023, this directive was conveyed by the Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, during a press briefing following a week-long retreat and onboarding session for the executive arm of the government.

The retreat, held at the esteemed National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos, drew the participation of key figures in the state’s political landscape, including State Governor Caleb Muftwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, Commissioners, Heads of Boards, Agencies, Commissions, Parastatals, and members of the State Political Party.

The event also featured resource people and facilitators from diverse fields who shared insights to inspire and challenge the participants in their mission to contribute to the collective growth of the state and its citizens.

One of the highlights of the retreat was the presentation of resolutions that emphasized the government’s priorities and strategies for advancing the state’s development.

Among these resolutions was a call to embrace the government’s vision, as encapsulated in its three priorities, ten thematic areas, and twenty-eight sub-thematic areas.

Participants pledged to work collaboratively and diligently to build a united Plateau State in alignment with the administration’s goals, as represented by the mantra “The Time is Now.”

Central to the resolutions was the commitment to enhance funding mechanisms to meet the state’s objectives.

The government seeks to achieve this by exploring alternative sources of funding, reducing the cost of governance, and optimizing revenue generation for effective project financing.

The participants also resolved to foster good governance through the implementation of people-oriented policies, transparent processes, and embracing e-governance.

Inclusivity and gender mainstreaming in policies and programs were highlighted as vital components of the government’s approach.

Furthermore, the retreat attendees acknowledged the historical challenges faced by Plateau State and expressed their determination to rise above these obstacles.

The goal is to build upon the legacy of the state’s founding fathers, establish a clear identity, and preserve its heritage. To achieve these aims, the participants agreed to enforce a ban on the collection of illegal taxes and the setup of unauthorized roadblocks.

The Deputy Governor, Mrs. Josephine Piyo, concluded the event by urging the officials to serve the people with dedication and in accordance with the administration’s mission and vision.
