Livy Uzoukwu Reacts As Tinubu Asked Court To Exclude Peter Obi From Possible Rerun In The Election

Nigerians closely follow the ongoing proceedings at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in the Federal Capital Territory. Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has responded to a request by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding Peter Obi of the Labour Party’s potential exclusion from a potential election rerun.

Tinubu’s legal team presented their Final Written Address on August 1 to the five-member panel of Tribunal Justices. They urged the exclusion of the Labour Party and its candidate, Peter Obi, from a potential election redo. Wole Olanipekun (SAN), the President’s Lead Counsel, argued that only the top two finishers should participate if a rematch occurs.

Outside the courtroom, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, the lead counsel for Peter Obi, stated that the APC’s appeal to the tribunal revolves around a Constitutional matter. He emphasized that the interpretation of this issue should be left to the Appeal Court Justices. Additionally, he noted that his team had exhausted all available options in seeking a favorable outcome for the Labour Party.

Dr. Uzoukwu emphasized that the matter is a constitutional one that has been thoroughly discussed. He stressed that the court must ultimately make the decision. He further stated that their arguments in favor of their claim were robust and persuasive, and while the court’s ruling is final, the strength of their argument is what truly matters.
