A pastor attached to the Living Faith Church, Okuokoko community in Uvwie local government area of Delta state is currently on the run after an alleged attempt to kill his 17- year old female house help, Saharareporters reports.
Members of the church who spoke on the incident said the pastor and his wife were always in the habit of beating her up at the slightest provocation. On this particular occasion, he attacked her for using a tin of milito eat a locally processed cassava meal known as garri.
A Warri- based human rights activist, Israel Joe who confirmed the incident said, ” Pastor Solomon Diya has allegedly made attempt on the life of his home help on Tuesday, April 5. The issue was reported and we directed that the girl be rushed to the hospital.
” The suspect has been invited by the police in Orerokpe but he’ s invading arrest and if by Monday he refused to turn himself up to the police, we shall obtain a warrant of arrest on him. When did using a tin of milk to drink garri constitute an offence of attempting to kill her?
” Can the pastor treat his own children that way if they also use his tin of milk? The mother of the girl arrived from Imo State today and we shall all ventilate our grievances accordingly. All the neighbours have complained how the pastor and his wife keep maltreating this girl. It will happen no more. “
Further findings indicate that the leadership of the Living Faith Church have promised to turn him into the hands of the police but have failed to do so at the time of filing this report. Diya, meanwhile kept mum when contacted over the matter.
Reacting to the incident on social media, Shaka Rabiat Hawa’ u wrote, ” Not all men who stand on the alter are called by God, some called themselves. So lets be careful on how we run to various men of God for advice. #Peace. “
Another social media user, Okey Ugwu wrote, ” I pity people in that contraption called church that are still following pastors and refuse to read the Bible and learn from God’ s words directly. “
