Lawyers hail Senate for confirming Tunji-Ojo, others as Ministers

The Global Integrity Crusade Network (GICN), a prominent human rights lawyers’ group, has commended the Nigerian Senate for demonstrating impartiality and integrity in the confirmation of ministerial nominees, specifically highlighting the approval of Rt. Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as a Minister.

In a session on Monday, the Senate confirmed a total of 45 ministerial nominees, which included Rep. Tunji-Ojo, the current Member representing Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, and Bosun Tijani, as recommended for screening and confirmation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Despite concerns raised by certain groups, including a lawyer, regarding alleged discrepancies in Rep. Tunji-Ojo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Discharge Certificate, the Senate’s decision was hailed by GICN as a commendable example of rising above blackmail and maintaining a commitment to justice and fairness.

Following the confirmation proceedings, Barr. Edward Omaga, President of GICN, along with Barr. Denning Akori, the Director of Legal Services, addressed journalists at the National Assembly. They expressed their appreciation for the Senate’s dedication to thorough investigation and fact-checking before making decisions, emphasizing the importance of avoiding misinformation and maintaining the institution’s credibility.
