What To Know About FG’s N8,000 Palliatives For Six (6) Months

The N500 billion palliative offered by President Bola Tinubu to mitigate the effects of the elimination of the petrol subsidy has continued to elicit conflicting responses. The President requested clearance from the House of Representatives on Wednesday for N500 billion to mitigate the effects of the elimination of the petrol subsidy.

 The House quickly responded by approving the proposal on Thursday, requesting proper use of the monies for their intended function. In response to allegations that the subsidy regime favoured the wealthy over the typical Nigerian, among other things, the President declared the abolition of the petrol subsidy during his inauguration address on May 29, 2023.



1. You must be on the “national social register” – During the previous administration, Zainab Ahmed, a former minister of finance, budget, and national planning, indicated that there is a social register that will be used for the electronic transfers of cash.

The “most vulnerable members” who have been located, listed, and included in a national social registry created by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development will receive palliative care. At the end of January 2022, the National Social Register included information on almost 46 million Nigerians.

2. These cash transfers are for the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria’s rural and urban areas, while the Federal Government has not yet fully defined the modality it would use to administer the new scheme.

3. The degree to which a population, individual, or organization cannot foresee, deal with, resist, and recover from the effects of disasters is known as vulnerability. It will be in accordance with the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution and will be decided by assessments that are supported by evidence.

4. Children, adolescent girls, women, the elderly, unemployed, malnourished people, and those who are ill or with pre-existing health conditions or disabilities are particularly vulnerable.
