Labour Party Rejects Tribunal's Verdict, Vows to Fight for Democracy

According to Channels Television, the Labour Party has rejected the judgments of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal dismissing its petitions challenging Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election.

The party said justice was not served and the judgments did not reflect the law or the will of Nigerian voters. It accused the tribunal of refusing to accept the “obvious” electoral fraud that occurred during the election, which was globally condemned.

The party saluted its legal team for fearlessly exposing the flaws in the electoral system, but said it can only weep for the state of democracy in Nigeria.

It refused to give up on the country despite this setback. The Labour Party said it will consult its lawyers and wait to receive the certified true copy of the judgments before announcing its next move.

Party spokesman Obiora Ifoh said in a statement that the February 25 election was an electoral robbery that was witnessed by Nigerians and the international community.

However, the Tribunal in its wisdom refused to accept the obvious. He said democracy in Nigeria is at stake, but the Labour Party will not relent until the will of the people prevails.

The party’s petitions had claimed irregularities, over-voting, and failure to comply with electoral laws in the election that saw Tinubu declared winner.

However, the Tribunal ruled that the Labour Party failed to prove its allegations and claims that Tinubu was not duly elected. It described the party’s petitions as unmeritorious.

The Tribunal also struck out a suit filed by the Allied People’s Movement against Tinubu and his running mate Kashim Shettima.

Despite this legal setback, the Labour Party insists it will continue to pursue justice through lawful means on behalf of Nigerians. Its next move will be announced soon.
