Kanu/Igboho: Northern Group Demand For Buhari’s Resignation Comes At Wrong Time

Spread the love

A civil society organisation from the northern part of the country called the Association Of Hausa People has demanded the immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari for what the organisation regarded as poor handling of banditry in the region and focusing on agitators like Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho. What this organisation failed to understand is that Nigeria does not need a change of government at this moment.

What the country need is a robust action and tactical strategy to overcome the menace of bandits in the northwest, wanton attacks by unknown gunmen in the southeast and insurgency in the northeast. These are the major security challenges affecting the country not a change of administration. Therefore, their demands come at the wrong time.

Nnamdi Kanu, Sunday Igboho and bandits are a different set of people with different demands. The federal government reserved the right to choose the appropriate measures to tackle each group. The Association of Hausa People should reconsider their demands and acknowledge that it is not the best thing that Nigerians are after at this moment. There are many issues of national importance to be addressed by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

People are suffering from wanton attacks by bandits in the north while violent agitations continue to ravage the southern part of the country. What Nigerians need is peace, stability and restoration of normalcy across the six geopolitical zones of the country. Demanding the resignation of the president will only fuel more instability and anxiety. All civil society organisations are expected to hold the government accountable and pressure the federal government into providing a quick solution to the country’s challenges.

The issue of increase in electricity tariff, fuel subsidy and rise of cooking gas take precedence. These are economic problems that directly affect the common man in the street. It is unnecessary to call for the president’s resignation since he has only a few months left in office before another election is conducted.
