‘I’m sorry, my passion for Nigeria made me tweet in anger’ – Bosun Tijani begs Senate

A ministerial nominee from Ogun State, Bosun Tijani has apologized to the Senate over “unpatriotic” comments he shared on Twitter some years ago.

According to Dailytrust paper, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (Oyo North) and Senate Minority leader, Simon Mwadkwon (Plateau North), had tackled the nominee, an Information Technology expert, over the tweets when he appeared before the Senate for screening.

“On July 21, 2019, Dr. Bosun tweeted against Nigeria, saying he does not value the Nigerian passport or Nigeria as a nation,” Buhari added.

He consequently enquired as to the candidate’s continued support for Nigeria and its passport.

Tijani, who graduated from the University of Jos in Plateau State with a bachelor’s degree in economics and a diploma in computer science, had also come under fire for previous tweets that were critical of President Bola Tinubu.

The nominee had stated, in response to a tweet from about four years prior, “It is becoming the norm. With his “serving power a la carte” expertise, Tinubu fed them that false story. If you want to spread such a false story, go invest your time and money in your business.

However, in response to Senato Buhari’s comment, Tijani stated he was dedicated to the country’s development and that he had tweeted as a result of an upsetting encounter he had at the Chinese Embassy a number of years earlier.

He said to the legislator, “I tweeted in rage.

The nominee was backed by Senators Adeola Solomon (Ogun West) and Ishaku Abbo (Adamawa North), who said he tweeted out of love for the nation and requested their fellow senators to overlook his “shortcoming”.

Additionally, the nominee spoke for his generation, according to Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who urged younger Nigerians to take note of Tijani’s example.

Additionally, he begged the lawmakers to pardon the nominee.

Later, Tijani apologized for his unpatriotic tweets, claiming he was not educated to treat elders with disdain.

Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, said his apology was accepted.

We cannot throw the baby out with the bathwater because we are all fathers.

I want to accept your apology on behalf of the Senate,” Akpabio remarked.

Therefore, he told Tijani to bow and leave.
