The National Executive Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has expelled Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, following his alleged refusal to appear before the party’s Disciplinary Committee.

The Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Kwankwaso, the 2023 Presidential Candidate of NNPP, had been earlier suspended by the party’s leadership at the National Convention on Aug. 29 in Lagos.

Recall that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the NNPP set up a Disciplinary Committee and directed it to invite Kwankwaso to defend allegations of gross anti party activities and mismanagement of party/campaign funds within five days.

The NEC had warned that, failure to appear before the Disciplinary Committee, Kwankwaso would be expelled from the party in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution 2022 (as amended).

Consequently, Mr Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, the Acting National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, said in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, that the NEC had expelled Kwankwaso with immediate effect because of his refusal to honour the committee’s invitations.

Former Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has raised concerns over the role of the judiciary in determining election winners in Nigeria.

This is as he advised the judiciary against taking away the right of the people to determine poll winners.

He raised the concern at a press briefing held in his office in Ikoyi on Monday following the announcement by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja that it would deliver its judgment on Wednesday.

The tribunal, in a statement on Monday, announced it would on Wednesday deliver judgment on the petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

But speaking at the briefing, George questioned why the judiciary had been making pronouncements to determine election winners rather than order INEC to to re-conduct the elections to aid the emergence of real winners.

Osun State Government on Monday distanced itself from the Federal Government appointed Focal Person on National Social Intervention Programmes, Mr. Kehinde Ibitoye, and programmes being planned with Microsoft and Fidelity bank.

A statement by the spokesperson to the governor, Olawale Rasheed, obtained in Osogbo on Monday said Ibitoye’s recent activities were injurious to the government’s reputation.

The government also declared that it was not part of any programme involving Microsoft Corporation and Fidelity Bank, and accused Ibitoye of dropping the names of the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the State Government.

The same read, “The State Government affirmed that Mr Ibitoye was an appointee of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and that his recent activities brought reputational damage to the state government, calling on local and national agencies and private sector organisations to beware of any solicitation from the said Ibitoye in relation to the State Government.

“The State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has also directed an in-depth investigation into the activities of the said Mr Ibitoye with a view to generate a report for action with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.”

Efforts to get Ibitoye’s reaction failed as text message and calls to his line were not answered.
