INEC should not be blamed for not transmitting presidential election results electronically – Yabagi Sani

Yabagi Sani, a former Presidential Candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) and the party’s National Chairman has insinuated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should not be blamed for not transmitting the results of the February 25, 2023, Presidential election electronically; after he maintained that even though the Electoral Commission was given the power to make guidelines for elections, its guidelines are not superior to the Electoral Act.

“INEC provided these guidelines, but that does not make INEC’s guidelines superior to the letter of the Electoral Act,” Yabagi Sani added.

The Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, argued that INEC did well during the conduct of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election and should be applauded. He stated that, while INEC’s performance did not match Nigerians’ expectations, it is important to remember that the Electoral Body operates under the rules of the Electoral Act.

Yabagi Sani went on to claim that the Electoral Act might subdue INEC’s rules, so the Electoral Commission could not be entirely blamed for the contest’s outcome.
