Expressing deep concern over the ongoing association of Fulani herders with various acts of violence across the nation, a socio- cultural entity known as the Fulbe United for Peace (FUP) has resolved to employ traditional methods to combat criminals disguising themselves as members of the Fulani community. Following a nationwide leadership consultative assembly held in collaboration with Arewa New Agenda (ANA) on Sunday in Abuja, representatives from the group hailing from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) issued a joint statement outlining their intentions as a means to contribute significantly to the progress of the entire nation.
According to DAILY POST, as indicated in the statement endorsed by the national president of FUP, Ardo Aliyu Liman Bobboi, the organization has reached a consensus to formulate strategies aimed at unifying the Fulbe community through the utilization of a traditional approach deeply entrenched in the Fulbe heritage and culture— known as ” Hombudu. ” The overarching objective of this approach is to put an end to any manifestation of criminal activity falsely attributed to the Fulbe identity.
The communiqué further outlines several other resolutions, including: the establishment of a well- connected network with pertinent authorities for Fulbe youth on a national scale; the pursuit of locally feasible solutions from within the community; and efforts to engage with various interest groups in order to foster national reconciliation, forgiveness, and the healing of the wounds inflicted upon Nigeria as a nation.
While underscoring the pivotal role that Fulbe plays as an ethnic and socio- cultural collective in contributing to the overall advancement of the country, the statement calls upon the government to engage in consultations with the leadership of Ardo on matters pertaining to policies affecting the group.
Furthermore, the statement emphasizes that the Fulbe community had actively and strategically rallied behind President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election. As a testament to their support, the communiqué expresses unwavering endorsement for all collaborative endeavors geared towards restoring peace and security within the nation, particularly those undertaken by the current administration led by President Tinubu, in collaboration with various stakeholders across the nation.
