Igbos Didn't Vote Obi Due To His Igbo Background, They Voted Him Because He's The Best–Sen Abaribe

According to a report from the Sun paper, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a former Senate Minority Leader and representative of Abia South senatorial district, has strongly denied the perception that the Igbos lack the unity needed to support a presidential candidate from their region.

Abaribe pointed out the overwhelming backing that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate from the Labour Party, received from Igbos in the last presidential election. He pointed out that this support was not merely due to Obi’s Igbo identity, but rather because the Igbos believed he was the most capable individual to tackle the economic challenges facing the nation.

Abaribe said, “Despite the misconception about Igbo unity, let’s look at the recent election. Peter Obi received significant support from the Igbo community. Those who doubted this fact quickly realized its accuracy. Why? Because Igbos saw Obi as the right person to manage our economy during a critical time, requiring a rational, astute, and prudent leader.”

When asked whether the votes for Obi were primarily driven by his Igbo ethnicity, Abaribe confidently stated, “Igbos didn’t vote for him solely due to his Igbo background; they voted for him because they recognized him as the most suitable candidate. I’m prepared to defend this argument against any challenge. Note that his appeal extended beyond Igbo communities to a nationwide level.”
