Igbo Youths Suggest Solution To Stop Killings, Insecurity And Sit-at-home Order in South-East

A Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has said the only solution to the security crisis rocking the region is the freedom of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. Reported by Daily Post Nigeria.

In a statement released on Monday, Goodluck Ibem, the President General of the coalition, urged President Bola Tinubu to adhere to the Court of Appeal’s judgment, which had previously ordered the release of Kanu from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ibem strongly contended that the continued detention of the IPOB leader, despite the court’s ruling, was both unlawful and illegal.

Echoing a recent statement made by Vice President Kashim Shettima regarding the Northeast, which emphasized that military force alone cannot resolve the issue, the coalition emphasized that a non-kinetic solution was necessary. They stated that only by releasing Kanu and engaging in negotiations with the agitators would it be possible to allete the troubles in the South-East.

In order to avoid an unending and exhausting conflict, it is imperative to acknowledge that a military approach cannot serve as a solution to the crisis in the South-East region.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s recommendation for a non-kinetic resolution to the insecurity in the Northeast holds true for addressing the crisis in the South-East as well.

Therefore, we earnestly urge President Tinubu to respect and comply with the Court of Appeal’s judgment, which calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). Adherence to the principles of the rule of law stands as the key to fostering peace, harmony, and security throughout the nation.
