"If The US, France, & UK Want War In Niger Republic, They Can Send Their Own People" -Orji Uzor Kalu

Former Abia State Governor and federal lawmaker representing Abia North in the national assembly, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has shared his perspective on the ongoing coup in the Republic of Niger. Reports had earlier emerged that Soldiers in Niger say they have removed President Mohamed Bazoum from power, after armed troops earlier blockaded the presidential palace in Niamey, the capital in one of the world’s most unstable nations.

Reacting to this development on his verified Facebook page, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu expressed his viewpoint: “Niger Republic is in our neighboring region, and Nigeria should not be part of ECOWAS’ military intervention plan. If the US, France, and UK are interested in war in Niger, they can send their own troops. Nigeria can provide financial support but not military personnel. It’s not right for Nigerian soldiers to lose their lives in another country’s conflict.”

He went on to elaborate: “Engaging in a war in Niger Republic isn’t a necessity as the sponsors and outcome are uncertain. Nigeria, along with the US and France, can instead offer support to Niger by allowing them a timeframe of one year to six months to transition to a new government. If ECOWAS jeopardizes Nigeria’s peace, it’s reasonable for Nigeria to consider withdrawing from ECOWAS. Nigeria is a sovereign nation, and its citizens’ well-being is of paramount importance.”
