INEC Called Two Witnesses To Testify In Court, But None Of Them Came To Testify—Akin Osuntokun

During an interview with Arise , Dr. Akin Osuntokun, the Director General of the Labour Party, stated that INEC called two witnesses to testify in court, but none of them came to testify on their behalf. He added that the chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu was supposed to seize the opportunity of the post election to discuss the various discrepancies of the presidential election in a very comprehensive manner, but he hid himself from public space.

Dr. Akin Osuntokun further stated that INEC spent so much money just to conduct the 2023 general election but ended up conducting it in an unsatisfactory manner. He, however, tackled Festus Okoye for boasting and promising various things without fulfilling them.

According to him, “INEC called, altogether, I think two witnesses, and of those two witnesses, nobody really of consequence came to testify. The Highest was the man designated as deputy director of ICT, a staffer. Now, Mahmood, the chairman of the INEC, Okoye, and the INEC’s reputation have been under constant bombardment with allegations and evidence of wrongdoing. I would have thought that the court proceedings would provide somebody like the chairman, and of course, you know, the significance of the presidential election, for him to come seize that opportunity to discuss the elections in a very comprehensive and exhausting manner. Rather than what you have, INEC has been very dodgy in the way it has handled the post-election period. “
