"I will not lose hope in the legal system, despite my dissatisfaction with the court's rule" -Atiku

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar has disagreed with the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) according to THESUN .

The former vice president advised his supporters to maintain their composure and noted that they would finally succeed during a news conference yesterday in Abuja. He said that the party had just lost a battle and not the war as a result of the verdict.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC’s) certification of President Bola Tinubu as the victor of the presidential election on February 25 was supported by the PEPT on Wednesday.

Atiku, however, clarified that his choice to contest the election’s outcome was motivated by his belief that the court is the guardian of justice, but claimed that the verdict was devoid of substantive fairness.

According to him,

“My ultimate goal in this attempt is to ensure that democracy is further reinforced through the principles and processes of fair hearing, just as I did when I instructed my attorneys to file my petition contesting the results of the presidential election. I make a considerable effort to inform you that the court of first instance’s ruling on this issue completely falls short of that expectation.

I reject the verdict because I don’t think it provides any real justice. But I will never lose faith in the legal system, despite my dissatisfaction with the court’s decision. I have thus requested that my attorneys exercise my constitutionally protected right to appeal to the higher court—in this case, the Supreme Court—which is a higher court”.
