Source Says Acting APC Chairman to be Named Minister

THE PUNCH newspaper reports that an informed source at the All Progressives Congress, APC, national secretariat in Abuja has said the confusion over the party leadership may be far from over as the acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, is expected to be appointed a Minister under the administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Kyari took over control of the ruling party following the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman and Senator Iyiola Omisore as the National Secretary.

According to the source, some representatives of the APC leadership that may include the national chairman, secretary and an undisclosed person are preparing to visit the President to discuss a future date for NEC and caucus meetings that would pave way for a National convention and possible election of new leaders.

Untill that happens, the source said that the APC is currently faced with the challenge of what to do if Kyari, is named a Minister. He said it remains uncertain if the acting Chairman will be made to stay the course until the appointment of a substantive Chairman.

The source said: “Definitely, they (NWC) are due to meet with the president any moment for them to decide on the all important NEC and caucus meetings. It is a must they meet to agree on the new dates.

“But I must say the focus of the NWC at the moment are NEC, reuniting party members and fine-tuning the audit report. That is the focus for now. I am sure after the NEC, fixing the National Convention shouldn’t go beyond October. The real challenge I think we have now is if Kyari, who is expected to be announced as a minister soon, will be made to stay the course till a substantive national chairman emerges or resign his position immediately.”

Commenting on possible replacement for Abdullahi Adamu as substantive Chairman, the source said on the list include former governors and political heavyweights in the North-Central.

According to him, former governor of Nasarawa State, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura; former governor of Niger State, Abu Lolo; former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Silas Ali Agara and former governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, are being considered for the position.
