I Said Nigeria's Economy Will Crumble From June 1st But What Tinubu Did Was Courageous" – Sen Smart Adeyemi

APC leader and senator Smart Adeyemi predicted that Nigeria’s economy would start to collapse on June 1st after reviewing the 2023 Appropriation Act. However, he did support President Tinubu’s decision to end gasoline subsidies, which in his opinion was a valiant attempt to prevent this outcome.

According to The Punch paper, Senator Adeyemi of the Senate Committee on Appropriations emphasized that the 2023 appropriation legislation allocated 90% of resources to debt repayment and services. He reiterated his opinion that President Tinubu’s decision would best safeguard the economy.

If the oil subsidy hadn’t been eliminated, the situation would have been disastrous, according to Senator Adeyemi. I can vouch for the fact that, in accordance with the 2023 Appropriation Act, 90% of the Senate’s budget was used to settle debt and make other essential payments.

I was a former appropriations committee member. I anticipated Nigeria’s economy to be in ruins as of June 1st. But Tinubu’s bravery was crucial. Literally, there was nothing else to do. I’ve always stood up for the people of our nation, and I swear that if we hadn’t done this on June 1st, Nigeria’s economy would have collapsed.
