Uzodinma Reacts After Being Asked If S/E Leaders Will Ask Tinubu To Release Kanu When They Meet Him

The Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, was at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday July 13th to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. While speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Governor Uzodinma revealed that South-East leaders are planning to meet with the President to discuss the lingering insecurity challenges in the South-East.

In the report which was made by Vanguard on Friday July 14th, Governor Uzodinma said – “My visit has to do with the security situation in the country. If you recall a few days ago, we had a meeting of the leadership of the South-East, political and non-political leaders, in conjunction with the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

“Among the resolution from that meeting was to visit Mr President to support and intervene in our resolve in addressing the issue of insecurities.”

Uzodinma was then asked by the newsmen if the South-East leaders will ask the President to release the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, when they meet him. In his reaction to the question, Uzodinma said that what they will tell the President is not meant for the public to know, and that they know the challenges that they are facing in the South-East.

He said – “What we will tell the President when we meet him, not for the public to know. We know the problems in the South-East. We’ve seen what we’ve also witnessed for the period under review, and we’re coming to call on the President to address the problem so there will be peace in the South-East.”

The South-East region had experienced a lot of unrest in recent times. The sit-at-home order believed to be imposed by IPOB to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu has had devastating effects on the economic and social activities in the South-East.
