Forgive Nnamdi Kanu, work for his release – Ohanaeze begs Northern leaders and Asari Dokubo

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has made a heartfelt plea to Northern leaders and former militant leader Asari Dokubo to forgive Nnamdi Kanu, a pro-Biafra agitator, and collaborate to secure his release.

According to Daily Post Nigeria, this appeal comes as a response to Nnamdi Kanu’s recent statement that he would not plead with the Federal Government or President Bola Tinubu for his release. Kanu emphasized that seeking his release would be an affront to the cherished memory of Pa Mbazulike Amaechi, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 91.

In light of the Igbo elders’ delegation that previously sought Nnamdi Kanu’s release after the Appeal Court’s order, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is concerned about ongoing efforts by individuals in the North, including Asari Dokubo, to pressure the Federal Government against complying with the request for Kanu’s release.

Ohanaeze’s factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, expressed support for Kanu’s decision not to plead for his release, emphasizing that people should cease begging for his freedom. Isiguzoro emphasized the importance of adhering to the Appeal Court’s pronouncement and called for the Supreme Court to set a hearing date for the government’s appeal against Kanu’s release.

The organization further stressed the significance of the Federal Government adhering to the rule of law and unconditionally releasing Kanu, who has been in detention for several years without compliance with court orders.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s historical involvement in facilitating Nnamdi Kanu’s release in 2017 has been noted, including the organization’s diplomatic efforts to pacify and gain support from critical stakeholders and Nigerians from different regions. However, the current situation presents challenges due to the necessity of pacifying individuals who have expressed grievances about Kanu’s past actions.

The organization is expected to employ discreet networking strategies, potentially seeking assistance from influential Igbo business magnates and the leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), to navigate the challenging situation and ensure Kanu’s eventual release.
