I Don't know how true it is but I heard Burkina Faso and others say they know who won our election – Chris Nwaokobia

Public Affairs commentator and member of the Labour Party, Chris Nwaokobia, has emphasized the importance for African leaders to guarantee the credibility of their electoral processes, setting a positive example for the entire continent. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Nwaokobia highlighted Nigeria’s responsibility in practicing a transparent democracy, which can then serve as a model for other West African nations.

Nwaokobia remarked, “It looks as if we are under pressure to go to war in Niger. If the President election followed a legitimate process, there would be no urgency in urging Nigeriens to act responsibly. The logical step would involve diplomatic discussions after a simple flight to Niger. However, lacking credibility due to question on how you emerged, Nigériens will not listen to you.”

He said; “I don’t know how true this is, but I’ve heard Burkina Faso and other Africans say that they know who won our election and we can’t speak to them on democracy.”

Nwaokobia emphasized that African leaders should attain power through honorable means, ensuring that democracy genuinely serves the populace. This, he stated, would elevate these leaders to influential figures within their regions and throughout the whole of Africa. He concluded by underscoring Nigeria’s prominence and its potential to lead by example across the continent. His statements shows the need for credibility in electoral processes as a fundamental component of promoting democracy

Furthermore, he expressed, “I believe African leaders must prioritize emerging through honorable pathways. They should ensure that democracy stays true to its definition; the government of the people, by the people, and for the people, in the words of Abraham Lincoln. As we genuinely serve and engage with the people, we can emerge not only as leaders within West Africa or the Sahara region, but as leaders of the whole of Africa”.
