'I did not support Peter Obi because I know that he would not win the election' – Nyesom Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike has disclosed that he did not support the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) because he knew that he would not win the presidential election.

Nyesom Wike said this while speaking in an interview with Channels TV. Nyesom Wike said they should praise the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC because the election was a tough election with the way it went.

He said, “I didn’t support Obi because I knew that he wouldn’t win the election. I’m realistic. We should praise INEC because for me, with the way the election went, it was a tough election. I gave it to INEC. I have been in this game for very long. It’s not about only you. You can be a good material but the conditions appear not to be favorable to you. Forget about sentiment, I can tell you that Obi wouldn’t win the election. This is just generational change. The young people said, ‘We are tired’. So the only hope for them is going to Obi as a younger candidate compared to other candidates. But unknown to them, they didn’t take it to cognizance that ethnicity is a factor and relation is a factor. It’s not only about being competent”.
